On April 19th the Gator Women’s Soccer team along with coaches, friends and family got together to celebrate our 2011 fall season as well as the completion of a successful spring season.  Our spring season was comprised of some great soccer in addition to concentrated individual development.  Spring season was full of great in-state competition and ended with an Easter weekend trip to North Carolina, to play Duke and North Carolina.  Our final weekend we finished on a high note, coming back to Gainesville with two victories.  The spring season although short, in terms of games played, is extremely important to our team’s development.  It’s a time for the team to focus on playing together and a chance to get in quality position work.  Coming off a great North Carolina weekend has really gotten everyone extremely excited to get back to UF this summer and continue our progression into what we hope will be a successful 2012 fall campaign!

Not only have we been playing lots of soccer, but this spring the team had a chance to take a swing at playing golf.  Now, when I say take a swing I mean far more than one.  This past Valentine’s Day is a day we now refer to as the “Valentine’s Day Massacre.”  Plain and simple … we were meant to have a ball at our feet and not a club in hand.  Throughout the two hours or so it took us to “complete” 9 holes of golf, some of us turned in early, we quickly found out that some of us are not as good as we imagined we would be.  We ended up hitting lumps of dirt farther than the ball at times, almost throwing the club and yelling in fits of frustration.  Clearly, this group was meant to be on a soccer field where silence is not a part of the game and taking a lump out of the grass is not necessarily frowned upon.  After completing our golfing adventure it was definitely an experience we all look back on and laugh; we had a lot of fun that day and it was nice to get a day break from soccer.

Although this spring has been a really fun time for all of us, we feel really good about what is coming up next for the Gator soccer team.  As the school year is coming to a close we are all excited to be done with our exams and go to our summer destinations, but we are all more excited to get back to campus this fall and continue where we left off!

Go Gators!
