What’s up Gator Nation? It’s Morgan Frazier back with another “Fresh Faces” segment. This week I had the pleasure of talking with freshman tennis star, Josh Wardell. Here’s what he had to say…
MF: When is your birthday?
JW: May 28
MF: Where are you from?
JW: I’m from Ft. Meyers, Florida, but I was born in England.
MF: Do you have any pets?
JW: I have two cats.
MF: How did you get into tennis?
JW: My Dad introduced tennis to my older brothers and I. They both played tennis in college. One played at William and Mary and my other brother played at Auburn.
MF: Did you play any other sports growing up?
JW: I played some baseball.
MF: Do you have any pre-match rituals?
JW: No, I just make sure that everything is prepared the night before, but I wouldn’t say that it’s superstitious.
MF: What made you want to be a Gator?
JW: I really thought I would fit in best here with the team and that the coaches would help me improve my game the most. I love the team and the atmosphere. Everyone is working hard and it’s a good place to push yourself.
MF: As a freshman, what has been the biggest adjustment so far?
JW: Going to class and having homework and tests since before I did online school.
MF: How are you preparing for season?
JW: Right now I’m focusing on getting healthy since I’m coming off of a back injury. I’m also encouraging the guys and working on my mental game.
MF: Do you have any goals that you hope to accomplish during your college career?
JW: I definitely want to win a National Championship, as well as maintain good grades.
MF: Any dreams of becoming a professional tennis player?
MF: Who is your favorite tennis player?
JW: If I had to pick one it would be Rafael Nadal.
MF: What are the top 5 recently played songs on your iPod?
JW: “Chillin” by Blaine Larsen, “So Good So Right” by Bone Thugs N Harmony, “Anything Could Happen” by Ellie Goulding, “Right Above It” by Lil Wayne, and “Yeah” by Usher.
MF: Do you have any hobbies or fun facts about yourself?
JW: As for hobbies, I like to hangout with friends, and watch/play sports. A fun fact about me is that I have dual citizenship and that both my parents are from New Zealand.
MF: Where is your favorite place that tennis has taken you?
MF: Since Thanksgiving is a couple weeks away, describe your perfect Thanksgiving meal…
JW: Let’s see…turkey, vegetables, mashed-cheesy potatoes, and pavlova, which is a New Zealand dessert that my mom makes.
MF: If you could have a superpower what would it be?
JW: I would want to have super-human strength.
