Over the next month, members of the Florida lacrosse team will share their thoughts, experiences and memories as they transition from being high school seniors to freshmen student-athletes.
Even as a senior in high school I still experienced plenty of freshman moments. Now that I’m back to being a freshman again, these moments are going to be a lot more frequent.
Since moving to Gainesville in June, I have had my share of freshman moments. One of these moments happened during my first rainstorm here on campus.
It had been raining all week and I was parked by OSL wiping off my scooter. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I wiped quickly and a little too aggressively, and I pushed my scooter over.
The scooter parking by OSL is always crowded and of course it was packed when this happened.
When I pushed my scooter over I ended up knocking over five other scooters along with it. I helplessly stood there and watched as they fell onto each other like dominos.
The owner of the last scooter that had fallen, who was about to be crushed by the other four, was holding all of them up.
First, I had to help pull the scooters off of her, and then together we picked the others up. Luckily, there wasn’t any damage to the other scooters; just to my ego.
The girl who was almost crushed was very nice and didn’t judge my obvious freshman mistake of parking too closely to the other scooters, and also just being incapable of doing anything right.
I learned a wise lesson from this mistake; don’t be a freshman.
